we produce reportages and documentaries and we are looking for a hosting service for our flv videos (I contacted you few weeks ago but unfortunately I didn't receive any answer). We need to find a solution to the following issues:

1) we need to host only the flv videos as our new WordPress site (http://www.longwayfactory.org) is already hosted by A Small Orange. Please note that the site is under construction and then many parts are still empty or to be finished.

2) we work on Mac and we encode our Final Cut videos with Compressor or with the Flash Encoder. Typical videos are encoded at 700 bps, 6-12 min. lenght, 15-45 mb.

3) we need a Mysql database because to show our videos we would like to use SlideShowPro/Director (http://www.slideshowpro.net). Also the player would be generated by SSP (it supports only progressive streaming).

4) at the moment we are checking how the users/customers could watch our videos. To do it we are using the Brightcove platform (sample here: http://www.longwayfactory.org/projects/levity/). Here we have a very big issue: the typical italian adsl connection is very bad and unstable (2 mb - theorical - provided by Telecom Italia) and then most people experience a lot of problem in viewing the videos. Do you think that a dedicated streaming service, as that provided by you, could help?

Thank you very much in advance for your help

Hi Claudio
Sorry we didn’t get your previous question, we reply to everything.

In response to your question, I would love to say yes we are the solution with a Dedicated Server, however that would not be factual

If you have unstable connections it wont matter the server or the service for the videos.
Now, I see you have encoding at 700 kbps
This can be a problem for low end DSL
I would recommend lower around 350-400
This will go a long way to avoid stutter for those users.

Other than that we would be happy to help with an account. You can start at the standard to test and if not happy can get a refund within a 10 day period.
But til then I would try the different encoding rate and test with some low end DSL
